REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2008
SELECTMEN’S CONFERENCE ROOM
Present: David Burton, Carlo D’Este, Jane Dolan, Nancy Soderberg, Heather Lakatos, Dianna Smith, and Helene DeFoe, Library Director.
Absent: John Kowalski
Chairman David Burton called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m.
Approval of Minutes
Jane Dolan motioned to accept the minutes of the Meeting of October 14, 2008 as presented; Carlo D’Este seconded this motion; and the motion was approved, with David Burton abstaining.
Reports
Helene DeFoe’s report for October was discussed at length and everything discussed is detailed in the 3 documents listed below, which are attached to the printed set of these minutes…namely:
1. Helene’s monthly report for October;
2. Clams Circulation Statistics for October; and
3. Library Budget Narrative FY 2010.
At next month’s Trustees meeting, Janet Burke’s monthly reports for October and November will be presented.
Helene advised the Trustees that on November 3, 2008 the Board of Selectmen voted and awarded the Library project contract to Bufftree Building Company, Inc. Demolition of the old library building may be at the end of this month; and the groundbreaking for the new building may be early next month.
Friends of the Library
Heather Lakatos said since Jack Kowalski could not attend tonight’s meeting, he gave her his written updates to pass along…
· Ann Everett resigned as Corresponding Secretary of the Friends; Ginny Scharfenburg was unanimously voted in as newest Board Member and as the Corresponding Secretary.
· Gloria Selander presented the Friends with a gift of 326 shares of Exxon Mobile stock. Her generous intention was to provide a gift of $25,000. It was decided to sell the stock at that day’s price of $76.75/share or $25,020.50.
· Float for the Christmas Parade is progressing well.
· Shelly updated the Friends on the library project. He also discussed recycled benches to be located outside the library. The Friends saw pictures of what appears to be the bench of choice. These same benches are located along Falmouth Heights Beach.
· Jack asked Shelly to look into the possibility of placing the pavers sold into the cement apron around the benches. Shelly said he will look into it.
Communications
Jane Dolan informed the Trustees that she attended 2 workshops at the Massachusetts Library Trustees Association/Massachusetts Friends of Libraries Annual Joint Conference on November 1 in Marlboro. Jane said they were very well done; she will do a write-up and present to the Trustees at their next meeting. Jane
