The library is a member of the CLAMS Library Network. Click on the Clams link to view and use the library's online catalog. Your Mashpee library card is honored at most Cape and Island libraries. If you have a CLAMS card, you can take out books, periodicals, audio books, DVDs,video cassettes, museum passes and puppets kits for your children. You need a PIN number to access your account online from the library or at home. You can see what items you have checked out, when they are due, or if you can renew those items. You can also make requests for items you'd
like to pick up at the library. If you don't already have a PIN number on your library card, ask the Circulation staff to add one for you. Select View My Account on the main menu of the CLAMS catalog and follow the directions to see your account status.
If you don't find what you are looking for in CLAMS, you can click on the link for the Virtual Catalog. This allows you to search other Massachusetts library networks for titles and make requests for items not available through CLAMS. The item you want to request must have an available status to make a Virtual Catalog request. Items which are checked out to other patrons cannot be requested. If the item you need is checked out, try again in a few days. if the status is now available, make your request. If a CLAMS library doesn't own the item you need, or it's not on the Virtual Catalog, ask the staff for Interlibrary Loan Services. Through this, we can borrow many items from non-Massachusetts libraries for your use.
Staff can help you in person or by phone with reference questions,or information about children's programs. You can sign up at the Circulation Desk to use the Internet or staff can show you how to access the Internet if you aren't familiar with the procedure. A number of useful online databases, which have been funded by the State of Massachusetts, can be accessed in the library or through your home computer. Full text newspapers and periodicals are included in the Reference Databases. Access to the databases is through the CLAMS link.
We have temporarily suspended the downloadable audiobooks service. The CLAMS' libraries felt the vendor was not responsive enough to patron problems in the downloading process and were not as helpful to staff that had questions about the services. A committee of CLAMS members is looking into other vendors and hopes to have a replacement product available before the end of the year.
We hope your visit to the library will be pleasant. Let us know if there is anything we can do help you. Staff is ready to assist you to use our services.
